history

Sol Líneas Aéreas was created in 2006 under a contract between the tour operator Transatlántica and the government of the province of Santa Fe to improve the connection between the larger cities of the province with Buenos Aires and Córdoba .

Although the Spanish Air Nostrum took over 45% of the shares in Sol Líneas Aéreas in September 2015, the latter ceased operations on January 15, 2016. The reasons given were the difficult economic situation in Argentina and the discontinuation of a codeshare agreement with Aerolíneas Argentinas .

Sol Líneas Aéreas recorded one fatal incident in its story:

  • On May 18, 2011 at around 8:50 p.m. local time (11:50 p.m. UTC ), about 45 minutes after take-off, a Saab 340 aircraft of the Sol Líneas Aéreas occupied by 19 passengers, two pilots and a flight attendant crashed in the Argentine Río Negro province . She was on a domestic flight from Neuquén to Comodoro Rivadavia . All occupants were killed in the crash (see also Sol Líneas Aéreas flight 5428 ) .
