Sondre Lerche (born September 5, 1982 in Bergen ) is a Norwegian singer, guitarist and songwriter . In 2002 Lerche received the Spellemannprisen , Norway's most important music prize, for best new artist. The Rolling Stone Magazine scored the album Faces Down among the 50 best albums of 2002.

Life

When he was 13, Sondre Lerche wrote his first songs, which he performed in a club where his sister worked. It was there that he met the producer HP Gundersen, who taught him the basics of composing. While studying, he took inspiration from idols like a-ha and recorded his first EPs , You Know So Well (2000) and No One's Gonna Come (2001). The first album "Faces Down", which will also be released in the USA, was also made during this time. Until the production of his second album Two Way Monologue , with which he began in 2003, he toured with his backing band The Faces Down in Norway, Canada and the United States. With the album he was not only successful in his homeland, he was also able to place himself in the independent charts in the USA .

In 2006, his third album, Duper Sessions , was released, which, like its two predecessors, was also released in Germany, but, like Phantom Punch , fell short of its first successes the following year. Only Heartbeat Radio was able to attract more attention again in 2009 at least in the USA and even made it into the official album charts . This was followed by Sondre Lerche's sixth studio album, which bore his name as a title. After a break, his seventh studio album, Please , came out in autumn 2014 . The record cover uses a painting by the Norwegian artist Lars Elling. In terms of content, there is much talk of relationships and separation on the new songs. On his European tour for the album release, he is accompanied by a bass guitarist and a drummer.

Sondre Lerche has lived in New York since 2007 . He was married to the Norwegian director Mona Fastvold since 2005; the marriage was divorced in 2013.
