Sophia Hoffmann (born June 23, 1980 in Munich ) is a German cook and cookbook author for vegan nutrition.

Life

Sophia Hoffmann grew up in Munich. Her mother was the principal of a primary school, her father worked as an amateur actor and storyteller and was responsible for the family's household. After discontinuing her studies in German, sociology and history, she completed her training as a hairdresser, worked as a DJ, singer and music journalist. According to her own statements, in 2010 she read a newspaper article about the consequences of factory farming and began to grapple with how one can eat without animal products. In 2013 she decided to make vegan cooking her job. As a career changer in gastronomy, she completed internships in restaurants and attended training courses. Since the beginning of 2019 she has been working part-time as a cook in a zero-waste day restaurant in Berlin.

Hoffmann has lived in Berlin since the end of 2008.

Act

Sophia Hoffmann became known with a food blog (English 'food' fuːd for 'food'), which she started in 2011. At a time when a meatless diet was starting to become popular in Germany, she reported on her experiences and presented her dishes. On her own she organized first vegetarian , later vegan “supper clubs”, semi-private dinners based on a theme, in several large cities. The Berlin magazine Mitteschön! gave her a permanent rubric in which she wrote about it.

Her first cookbook, Sophias Vegan Welt , was published in 2014 and had its second edition in 2015. The media group Universal became aware of her and produced videos with her on YouTube under the title . In relation to the newspaper Die Welt , Hoffmann emphasized that she did not want to proselytize, her message was: "Living vegan is possible and fun!" For her next book, which came out in 2016 under the title Vegan Queens , she interviewed twelve gastro-entrepreneurs and developed multi-course vegan themed menus with ten of them. This resulted in a podcast format of the same name with a series of interviews. In February 2019, her third book, Zero Waste Kitchen , was published, which provides information on purchasing, recycling and storage as well as recipes and shows how to avoid food waste and packaging waste.

The combination of communication about cooking and political activism is typical for Hoffmann. One of the goals of Vegan Queens was to present women as role models in the catering industry, while Zero Waste Kitchen is particularly ecologically motivated. She also volunteers for environmental protection organizations such as Greenpeace and the WWF , acts as an ambassador for Fairtrade Germany and is involved in refugee aid. Hoffmann is a member of the jury for the Internorga German Gastro Founders Award .

At the invitation of the American Women's Organization Women Chefs and Restaurateurs (WCR) she cooked on International Women's Day in March 2018 along with five international vegan chef Inside the "International Women's Day Dinner" at the James Beard House in New York.

She is a freelance writer for the weekly Friday and the online magazine edition F .
