Sophie Christiane von Wolfstein
Sophie Christiane von Wolfstein (born October 24, 1667 in Sulzbürg ; † August 23, 1737 in Fredensborg Palace ) was a Countess of Wolfstein and, by marriage, Margravine of Brandenburg-Kulmbach .
Life
Sophie Christiane was a daughter of Count Albrecht Friedrich von Wolfstein zu Sulzbürg (1644–1693) from his marriage to Countess Sophia Luise (1645–1717), daughter of Count Wolfgang Georg zu Castell-Remlingen and Countess Sophie Juliane von Hohenlohe-Pfedelbach . Sophie Christianes maternal uncle was married to an aunt of Count Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf ; Sophie Christiane was therefore raised strictly religious in the sense of Pietism .
On August 14, 1687, she married the apanaged Margrave Christian Heinrich von Brandenburg-Kulmbach (1661–1708) in Obersulzbürg Castle . For the margravial court in Bayreuth, however, the marriage was “not befitting”.
After the birth of their first child, the family moved into Schönberg Palace , where Sophie Christine, described as "excellent", took care of the careful upbringing of the children. She summarized the prayers used for the “house prayer” in the so-called Schönberg hymnbook . Through the Schönberg Treaty in 1703, Christian Heinrich ceded the Bavarian-Ansbach succession to King Friedrich I of Prussia and was given the office of Weferlingen near Magdeburg, in whose castle the family subsequently lived.
After her husband's death, she lived permanently in Denmark at the invitation of her son-in-law, which became a refuge for German pietists. Sophie Christiane was buried in Roskilde Cathedral.
