Sophie Eleonore of Hessen-Darmstadt
Sophie Eleonore von Hessen-Darmstadt (born January 7, 1634 in Darmstadt , † October 7, 1663 in Bingenheim ) was Landgrave of Hessen-Homburg by marriage .
Life
Sophie Eleonore was a daughter of Landgrave Georg II of Hesse-Darmstadt (1605–1661) from his marriage to Sophie Eleonore (1609–1671), daughter of Elector Johann Georg I of Saxony .
She married her cousin, Landgrave Wilhelm Christoph von Hessen-Homburg (1625–1681) , on April 21, 1650 in Darmstadt . On the occasion of her wedding, Sophie Eleonore received office and Bingenheim Castle from her father . Wilhelm Christoph preferred Bingenheim to his previous residence in Homburg and mostly lived there with his family, which is why he was also called Landgrave of Hessen-Bingenheim. Subject to state sovereignty, Bingenheim was also assured of the male descendants of Sophie Eleonore and Wilhelm Christoph; yet only two daughters of the marriage survived their father.
After Wilhelm Christoph's death there was a dispute over Bingenheim between Hessen-Darmstadt and Hessen-Homburg, which was finally won by the Darmstadt regent Elisabeth Dorothea .
