description
Vegetative characteristics
Sorbus ulleungensis grows as a tree that can reach heights of up to 20 meters. The grayish brown trunk bark is smooth in young trees, but becomes longitudinally fissured with age. The bark of the thick branches is reddish brown. The egg-shaped, red buds reach lengths of up to 2 centimeters and are colored red. They can be very sticky and, with the exception of the tip, which can be covered with yellowish brown hair, are bald.
The alternate arranged on the branches leaves are in a petiole and a plurality of leaflets divided. The petiole is 3 to 5.3 inches long. The leaves reach a total length of 17 to 31 centimeters and contain six to nine pairs of leaflets. The leaflets reach a length of 6.2 to 9.6 centimeters and a width of 1.5 to 2.6 centimeters. The top of the leaf blade is dark green in color, while the hairless underside is pale green. The pointed tip of the spreader is pointed and the edge of the spreader is finely serrated almost to the base of the spade. From each side of the leaf median nerve, 15 to 21 lateral nerves branch off. The stipules fall off early.
Generative characteristics
The flowering period of Sorbus ulleungensis extends from the beginning of May to mid-June. The terminal, panicle-like inflorescences are 8 to 14.4 inches long and 9 to 23.5 inches wide. Each inflorescence contains several tufted and fragrant individual flowers.
The hermaphrodite and pleasantly scented flowers are radial symmetry and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The flowers reach a diameter of 1 to 1.6 centimeters. The five green and somewhat fleshy sepals are triangular in shape. The five white petals are elliptically shaped with a length of 0.5 to 0.6 centimeters and a width of 0.4 to 0.5 centimeters wide. The three to five, more rarely up to six semi-subordinate carpels are hairy white. There are three to six styluses , which can reach a length of up to 0.3 centimeters. The 20 stamens are about 0.4 inches long and the anthers are yellow.
The apple fruits are approximately spherical to spherical in shape with a length of 0.75 to 1.2 centimeters and a thickness of 0.8 to 1.3 centimeters. When ripe they are shiny yellowish orange to red in color. Each of the fruits contains up to twelve light brown to brown seeds. These are up to 0.41 inches long and up to 0.21 inches wide.
Chromosome number
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 34.
distribution

Taxonomy
It was first described as Sorbus ulleungensis in 2014 by Chin-Sung Chang in Harvard Papers in Botany , who split the species off from Sorbus commixta due to morphological differences . The specific epithet ulleungensis refers to the range of the species.
