Sorno ( Žarnow in Lower Sorbian ) is a district of the town of Finsterwalde in Brandenburg.

geography

Sorno is located in Niederlausitz , in the south of Brandenburg . The place is 120 kilometers south of Berlin , 70 kilometers north of Dresden , 61 kilometers southwest of Cottbus and 100 kilometers northeast of Leipzig .

history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1346. At that time the village was still in Wendish territory and belonged to the Dobrilugk monastery . Sorno owes its name to this origin, which translated means something like rye land (Serno) or millstone (Sornaw). Both have always existed in Sorno.

On June 3, 1799, June 30, 1818 and August 1, 1827 there were three major fires in Sorno.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community of Rosendorf was incorporated.

Until a place of the same name near Senftenberg was demolished in 1971, Sorno was often given the addition "German" to distinguish it, while the other Sorno was also called Wendisch Sorno .

On December 6, 1993 Sorno was incorporated into the town of Finsterwalde.
