Nuraghe Sos Nurattolos

Sos Nurattolos is a nuragic sanctuary. It is located in the wilderness of Montacuto in the province of Sassari in Sardinia and consists of the nuraghe, the sanctuary of the fountain , a small Sardinian megaron temple and three stone remains of round huts dating from between 1600 and 900 BC Come from BC.

From the shepherd's village of Alà dei Sardi , (north of Buddusò ), which is 600 m high on the Altopiano (plateau), a dirt road leads to Sos Nurattolos. Through a forest you reach the ridge with the peak of Punta Senalonga at an altitude of 1077 m, at whose feet the sanctuary is located.

The holy spring ( Italian Pozzo sacro ) is set in granite blocks in an irregularly round temenos , 11.3 × 10 m in size from large polygonal blocks . It is characterized by its rectangular facade with a 5.0 m long and 2.6 m wide corridor. The central room, which can be reached from the corridor through a central entrance with architrave , is equipped with side benches. Inside the enclosure, but with access from the side, lies the source over which the intact Tholos still stands. There are more round huts in the courtyard, probably for cultic purposes.

Not far away is a large round hut built from small-format stones with an internal diameter of 8.4 m and a wall thickness of 1.4 m.

A little higher is the rectangular Megaron temple, a double Astylos , as it is provided with ante on both the facade and the rear, which are still remarkable today. The small temple is surrounded by an elliptical enclosure.
