Souloulou

Souloulou (also: Tsouloulou ) is a village in the Guidan Roumdji municipality in Niger .

The village lies on the north bank of the temporarily water-bearing dry valley Goulbin Maradi on the state border with Nigeria . There is a border crossing here. The closest major city in Nigeria is Sabon Birni, about 12 kilometers away . The city center of Guidan Roumdji is located around 30 kilometers east of Souloulou. The municipality belongs to the Guidan Roumdji department in the Maradi region .

Souloulou is run by a traditional local chief ( chef traditionnel ). In the 1980s, the settlement consisted of four individual villages, each with their own local chiefs: Souloulou Magagi, Souloulou Sarkin Baoura, Souloulou Sarkin Foulani and Souloulou Sarkin Noma.

At the 2012 census, Souloulou had 5,424 inhabitants who lived in 790 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 3,766 in 515 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 2,617 in 475 households.

The area in and around Souloulou is considered to be the least secure in the municipality of Guidan Roumdji. Cross-border cattle theft, robbery, highway robbery and drug abuse are common.
