South Point is a village in Lawrence County , Ohio , United States . The village lies on the banks of the Ohio River , at the point where the three states of Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky form a common border. In 2000 a total of 3742 inhabitants lived in South Point. Mayor is Ron West.

South Point's geographic coordinates are 38 ° 25 ′ N , 82 ° 35 ′ W (38.419289, −82.580579). The village is not far from the point where Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky meet. About two kilometers away from the southeast corner of the village is the southernmost point of the state of Ohio on the Ohio River .
According to the United States Census Bureau , South Point has a total area of 8.37 km 2 , of which 7.61 km 2 is land and 0.75 km 2 is water.
history
William "Ranger" Davidson is accepted as the founder of the place. He and his family settled here in 1798. In 1941 a memorial was erected in honor. His son the pastor William Warrington Davidson (1798-1883) founded the First Baptist Church of South Point in 1833.
On September 11, 1887, the administrative officer (English Commissioner) of Lawrence County, the petition signed by 58 men for the establishment of a village (English Village) answered in the affirmative. This made it possible to develop the existing settlement into a self-governing village. On February 4, 1888, the first election of the mayor took place. This was won by Jerry J. Davidson, who held the office with an electoral period interruption (1894/95) until 1901. The mayor's term of office was initially two years and was extended to four years in 1980.

At the time of the United States Census 2000, South Point was inhabited by 3742 people. The population density was 597.0 people per km². There were 1654 housing units at an average of 249.5 per km². The South Point population was 95.91% White , 2.27% Black or African American , 0.08% Native American , 0.16% Asian , 0.03% Pacific Islander , 1.55% named two or more Races. 0.32% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.
The residents of South Point distributed to 1485 households out of which 31.0% were living in children under 18 years. 61.8% of the households were married, 10.2% had a female head of the household without a husband and 23.8% were not families. 21.1% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 8.4% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 2.89 people.
The population was divided into 23.1% minors, 8.3% 18–24 year olds, 27.8% 25–44 year olds, 25.5% 45–64 year olds and 15.3% aged 65 and over or more. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 women there were 89.9 men. For every 100 women over 18, there were 89.4 men.
The median household income in South Point was 33,110 US dollars and the median family income reached the amount of 34,560 US dollars. The median income for men was $ 32,439 compared to $ 21,496 for women. The per capita income was $ 15,296. 11.3% of the population and 9.0% of families had an income below the poverty line , including 17.2% of minors and 3.7% of those aged 65 and over.

At the United States Census 2010 , South Point had 3598 residents. The population density was 519.8 people per square kilometer. There were a total of 1699 residential units, that is 223.1 per square kilometer. 94.2% of the population were White, 3.2% African American, 0.1% Natives, 0.5% Asians, and 0.2% Pacific Islanders. 1.8% stated that they belong to two or more races. 0.4% of the population identified themselves as Hispanics or Latinos.
Of the 1,602 households there were minors living in 33.0% of the households and married couples in 53.1% of the households. 12.1% of households were headed by women without husbands, and men without wives headed 5.5% of households. 29.3% of households were made up of non-families, and 25.4% of households were made up of individuals and 10.5% of households were made up of individuals who were over 65 years of age at the time of the survey. The average household size was 2.47 people, families had an average of 2.92 members.
The median age was 40.3 years. 23.3% of the population were minors, 7.4% were in the 18–24 age group; 25.2% were 25–44 years old, 26.8% were 45–64 years old, and 17.3% were 65 years old or older. 46.8% of the population were male and 53.2% female.
