South Ribble is an administrative district with borough status in the county of Lancashire in England . The administrative seat is the city of Leyland ; other important places are Bamber Bridge , Lostock Hall , Penwortham and Walton-le-Dale .

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of the urban districts Leyland and Walton-le-Dale and parts of the rural district Preston.
