Burnley is an administrative district with borough status in the county of Lancashire in England . The administrative seat is the city of the same name, Burnley , in which more than four fifths of the population live. In addition, the district includes several villages, of which Padiham is the largest. Burnley is a stronghold of the far-right British National Party .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of the former County Borough Burnley and the Rural District Burnley.
