The Odessa Soviet Republic ( Russian Одесская Советская Республика (ОСР) , German Transcription: Odesskaya Sovetskaya Respublika, Ukrainian Одеська Радянська Республіка ) was a short-lived Soviet republic on the territory of the former Russian Empire , which on January 5 jul. / January 18, 1918 greg. from parts of the Cherson Governorate and the Bessarabia Governorate with its center in Odessa .

history

During the Russian Civil War , just before Bolshevik forces ousted the Ukrainian government from Kiev and Sfatul Ţării proclaimed the independence of the Moldovan Democratic Republic , Odessa became jul on December 23, 1917 . / January 5, 1918 greg. declared a free city.
