The Spielvereinigung 1899 Leipzig is a German football club from Leipzig-Lindenau . The home of the club is the Karl Enders Sports Park , which can accommodate 5000 spectators. Before 1945, the game association was, alongside VfB Leipzig and Dresden SC, one of the most successful Saxon and Central German football clubs.
history
The game association was founded in 1899 under the name ATV Leipzig-Lindenau . The ATV football department became independent as early as 1903 and acted as a game association in 1899 Leipzig. In the championship of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs , SpVgg was able to win the championship four times and for many years was the second strongest representation of the city after the 11-time Central German champions VfB Leipzig , ahead of local rivals Fortuna Leipzig and Wacker Leipzig. The first Central German participation in the finals was achieved by the Leipzigers in 1912 after victories in the preliminary round over Budissa Bautzen , the CBC 1899 and the Dresdner SC . In the final, the Lindenauer prevailed against FC Wacker Halle 1-0 afterwards. By 1924, the game association was able to bring in three more Central German championships. The greatest success was the win in the 1913/14 season, in which the SpVgg was able to prevail against the three-time German champions VfB Leipzig. The Saxons were also able to present themselves positively in their five participations in the final round of the German championship. In 1912 and 1924 the Leipzigers reached the semi-finals, but just failed because of the representations of Hamburger SV and Karlsruher FV .
In the early 1930s, the game association could no longer build on the successes. The Central German Football Cup won in 1931 was to be the last title of the Leipzig team. The qualification for the Gauliga Sachsen , introduced in 1933 , was missed for the time being. In 1937, the club managed a one-year guest appearance in the Gauliga. The league was only just missed behind the tied team from Guts Muts Dresden . In 1943, after merging with TuRa Leipzig , the SpVgg returned to the Gauliga as KSG TuRa / SpVgg Leipzig . This KSG existed until the cessation of gaming operations in 1945. From 1933 to 1943, the game association was one of the strongest teams in the Leipzig district class (2nd division). Top places and twice the championship were achieved.
In 1945 the KSG was dissolved. Instead of the former KSG associations TuRA, SpVgg. In 1899 and Leipziger SV in 1899, individual clubs were re-established as "SG" after they were banned, such as SG Lindenau-Hafen as the successor to the game association . This played until 1949 within the city or the district of Leipzig. Due to the post-war restrictions, these were the highest game levels, in 1946 the city of Leipzig (three seasons), then two years for the city and district (two seasons). In this environment with all the former top teams of the Gau North-West Saxony - some soon qualified for the future upper and GDR league - two first and one sixth place were taken. The championship was missed after the first places.
In 1948/49 Lindenau-Hafen played in the district league, reached eighth place and failed to qualify for the new state league. The district league or class could not be held as BSG Industrie Hafen . The club split up in 1951 in BSG Progress West and BSG Motor Lindenau and played in the district class. Progress came in 1956 and 1957 via the district class in the district league, but rose several times. Between 1975 and 1984 was the most successful time with ten game series in the district league (3rd league in the GDR football association). 1985 went down to the district class. Motor Lindenau reached the district league in 1965 and had great ambitions. The club was vice district champion twice, but had to be relegated four times. In 1990 progress West merged with BSG Motor Lindenau to form Spielvereinigung 1899 Leipzig and played in the district league until 2002. The current league is the Leipzig City League (8th league).
