In common parlance, austerity package describes a bundle of measures aimed at achieving a specific savings target. It is mainly used in politics to mark the reduction of the budget deficit and has mostly negative connotations in public.
In 1996 , austerity package was the word of the year in Germany. In 2010 it was again discussed in public as part of the debt brake .
