from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics is an award from The Fundamental Physics Prize Foundation , a non-profit organization founded by Russian entrepreneur Yuri Milner .

Since July 2012, the prize has been the most financially endowed prize in the field of science. At 3 million US dollars (for each winner), the prize money is three times higher than that of the Nobel Prize. Nine prizes were awarded in the first year, with previous winners sitting on the selection committee for future winners.

In addition to the main prize, the foundation awards the $ 300,000 Physics Frontiers Prize (whose winners will also be on the Fundamental Prize's selection committee) and the $ 100,000 New Horizons in Physics Prize .
