The Speikboden , also Speikbodenhöhe , is with a height of 2653 m above sea level. A. the local mountain of St. Veit in Defereggen in East Tyrol .
The summit is a plateau that slopes slightly to the north. The neighboring mountains are the Gritzer Riegel ( 2736 m ) in the west and the Donnerstein ( 2725 m ) in the east. The name of the mountain is derived from the occurrence of the sticky primrose , which is referred to here as Speik and occurs on lime-poor soils up to an altitude of 3000 m .
The Speikboden is easy to climb on marked hiking trails and offers a good view of the Glockner Group , Venediger Group , Panargenkamm and Rieserferner Group .
The ascent from the Speikbodenhütte (St. Veit) takes about 2 hours and that from the Zupalseehütte (Virgen) takes about 1.5 hours. In winter, the ascent from St. Veit is a popular ski tour .
