Spiridon Mattar (born March 1, 1921 in Beirut ; † July 26, 2014 ) was the Melkite bishop of Nossa Senhora do Paraíso em São Paulo in Brazil .

Life

Spiridon Mattar was ordained a priest on July 20, 1946 . He studied theology and philosophy at St. Anne's Seminary in Jerusalem. He was secretary at the bishopric in Beirut, pastor of Our Lady of Providence, teacher and superior at St. Basil School, vicar general in Beirut and president of the ecclesiastical court of the Patriarchal Parish of St. John Chrysostom.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on June 22, 1978 Bishop of Nossa Senhora do Paraíso em São Paulo. The Patriarch of Antioch , Maximos V. Hakim , donated him episcopal ordination on July 20 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Georges Haddad , Archbishop of Tire , and Habib Bacha MSP , Archbishop of Beirut and Jbeil .

On April 20, 1990, Pope John Paul II accepted his early resignation.
