The Spitzenverband Fachärzte Deutschlands eV (SpiFa) is an umbrella organization of independent, independent and specialist medical professional associations .

In 2005/2006, the informal discussion group “Potsdam Round” was launched. In this context, the affiliated professional associations regularly exchanged views on the concerns of specialists. In July 2012 the name was changed to “ Spitzenverband Fachärzte Deutschlands e. V. (SpiFa) ".

In addition, the SpiFa represents the interests of the German medical profession at the European level and is a member of the European Union of Medical Specialists . The SpiFa aims to help shape supply in Germany and has founded a subsidiary, Sanakey GmbH, for this purpose.

The aim of the SpiFa is the representation and representation of the overriding interests of the specialists in clinic and practice, as well as their political enforcement at federal and state level as well as the representation in the public. It bundles specialist medical interests and represents them vis-à-vis politics, self-administration and other independent medical associations. One of its tasks is to inform and actively involve the member associations about political processes, developments in self-administration as well as lobbying and cooperation with other actors in the health system and to participate in the formation of public opinion.

The SpiFa represents demands for a strengthening of the self-administration of the German health system, an expansion of selective contractual regulations by the legislature and also supports European integration.

Memberships

The SpiFa is a member of the Alliance of German Doctors' Associations, which was founded in 2007, and is also represented on various committees in self-administration and companies through its board members, the chairmen of the standing committees and the managing director.

Since January 1, 2017, the SpiFa, as the largest German specialist medical association, has represented specialist medical interests at the UEMS at European level.

Organization and board

The association is managed by a board of directors elected for four years. This consists of a chairman and three deputies. Only the chairpersons or other specialist members of the board of a professional association within SpiFa can be elected as board members.

The general assembly is the relevant and decision-making body of the association. All full members of the SpiFa are represented with voting rights. Associate members have the right to be present and to speak.

The positions of the SpiFa and thus of the German medical profession are discussed and developed in thematic specialist committees.

Another body is the general manager of the SpiFa. It supports the board in presenting the association to the outside world in order to implement the stated goals. The general manager is also responsible for the administration of the SpiFa and the resulting business of the association. The general manager of SpiFa has been the lawyer and former member of the Bundestag Lars Lindemann since 2012 .
