The pointed-humped Raukopf or pointed-humped orange veil ( Cortinarius rubellus , syn .: C. speciosissimus ) is a species of fungus from the family of veil relatives (Cortinariaceae). Within the genus, it is assigned to the subgenus Rauköpf ( Leprocybe ). The stalked, happy rust- / fox-colored fruiting bodies often have a hat with a pointed hump and sometimes a yellowish banded stem. The agaric fungus grows in spruce forests on acidic, moist soils that are often overgrown with peat moss . It contains the toxin orellanin and, if left untreated, causes fatal kidney failure.

Macroscopic features

The hat is rust to cinnamon orange or fox-colored and reaches a diameter of three to eight centimeters. It is thin, blunt to pointy and has a fine, felt-like, fibrous surface. The distant, bulged lamellae have a cinnamon-orange to rust-brown tone. They are attached to the stem and are slightly wider than the meat of the hat. The slender club-shaped, dry stem reaches a length of eight and a width of 1.5 centimeters. He is often (especially young) provided with several golden-yellow velum belts or rattled . The meat is orange-yellow to saffron-colored , rust-brown in the lower part of the stem and has a mild to radish-like taste.

Microscopic features

The rust-brown spores are fine-black and have a size of 8.5-11.5 × 6.5-9 micrometers.

Species delimitation

It can be confused with the rare rhubarb- footed rough head ( Cortinarius callisteus ), which has an oily, burnt smell (like "locomotives"). The lemon- yellow rocky head ( Cortinarius limonius ), which like the rhubarb- footed one grows in the coniferous forest and is suspected of being poisonous, is similar. The orange-foxed veil can be distinguished by a lighter, rust-yellowish, non- puckered stem. In addition, it can only be found in the deciduous forest. There may be a risk of confusion with edible mushrooms with young chanterelles .

Ecology and diffusion

The pointedly hunched Roughhead prefers acidic, moist and swampy soils overgrown with peat moss . It can be found between August and October in the coniferous forest, especially under spruce, fir and in the mixed spruce and pine forest. It forms a mycorrhiza with the conifers . The fungus is not uncommon in southern Germany, especially in the Black Forest , Austria and Switzerland.

toxicology

The pointedly hunched Raukopf is one of the most poisonous mushrooms that occur in Central Europe. It is closely related to the deadly poisonous orange fox . Both contain significant quantities of the poison orellanin , which leads to a particularly slow and painful poisoning with the typical Orellanus syndrome . In many cases, it ends with fatal kidney failure.
