Sporting Clube Petróleos do Bié , usually just called Sporting do Bié , is a sports club from the Angolan city of Kuito , capital of the province of Bié . He is known for his football , basketball and handball departments.

The club welcomes its guests in its 16,000-seat Estádio dos Eucalíptos or in the municipal Estádio Municipal do Kuito , which has a capacity of 9,000.

The main sponsor is the state-owned oil company Sonangol .

history

The club was founded by Portuguese on May 3, 1915 , as branch club No. 88 of the Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon . After Angola's independence in 1975, it went through a crisis caused by the flight of Portuguese settlers and, above all, by the destruction and damage caused by the civil war in Angola (1975-2002). After he stopped completely for a while, he stopped using the Sportings symbols for a while and was therefore considered a former branch club. The club also changed its name to União Sport do Bie and then União Petro do Bié in the mid-1980s . It has had its current name since the early 1990s, based on the original name, but without reintroducing the old green and white Sportings emblems. In 2004 he temporarily renamed himself Atlético Petróleos do Bié .

After Sporting do Bié suffered from destroyed facilities, particularly in the 1990s, the club experienced a significant recovery after the end of the civil war in 2002. The club's own stadium, Estádio dos Eucalíptos, was partially renewed, and in 2008 the sports complex was inaugurated on Avenida Sagrada Esperança , in particular with the club headquarters and multifunctional sports hall ( pavilhão gimnodesportivo ), where the indoor sports sections are located.

In 2012 the club returned to Sportings' green and white dragon emblem.

Successes (soccer)

The club has not yet been able to win national titles. The four seasons 1987, 2000, 2002 and 2005 in the highest Angolan league Girabola can therefore be considered the greatest club successes . His last first division presence in Girabola in 2005 ended the club in 14th and last place, so that this time the direct relegation back to the second division followed, the Gira Angola . In the local Série C, the club still plays today (as of 2014).

sports

The club practices the following sports:

Both men's and women's teams are mostly run. The club's first women's basketball team plays in the highest Angolan basketball league, the Campeonato Nacional Sénior Feminino de Basquetebol (as of 2014).
