Wut is a German-Austrian television film from 2018 and the seventh episode in the crime series Traces of Evil with Heino Ferch in the lead role. Directed by Andreas Prochaska . Martin Ambrosch wrote the script .

The psychiatrist was called in by a dropout to uncover an internal police corruption case. Since the officers concerned are not interested in an explanation, they do everything possible to prevent this. When trying to help the fugitive, Richard Brock's life is in danger.

action

The policeman Manfred Reiser is on the run because he is said to have killed his own son. Since he tried to get Dr. Calling Brock, he is suddenly rudely awakened by SEC people , as the investigators had intercepted the call. Brock can make it clear to them that he does not know Reiser, so they break off the mission. When asked by the district manager Gerhard Mesek, Brock learns that Reiser also shot a colleague on his escape.

Brock learns that Manfred Reiser is not very popular among his colleagues. The former professional soldier was abandoned by his wife and his son had decided to live with his mother, so that Reiser's life was a little upside down. Brock looks around the settlement where Reiser lived and shot the policeman. At the same time, he is worried about his daughter. She suffered a circulatory collapse and Brock realizes that she has not yet processed the gunshot wound from the investigation against "Sand AG" .

In order to understand the motives and the possible further course of action of the still volatile traveler, Brock asked the police officers involved to describe the events of the evening. He notices inconsistencies that he cannot yet evaluate. It becomes clear that Reiser's colleagues have secrets. Brock had convicted one of them, Stefan Merz, of corruption and murder seven years ago. Now he suspects that other police officers are being bribed to cover up the machinations of "certain people". Brock learns from a friend of Reiser's that he wanted to "clear the table". He therefore suspects that Reiser's colleagues killed his son in order to blame him and to silence him. Brock now also feels he is in danger and confides in his best friend Klaus Tauber. He tells him the names of the corrupt police officers, whom Tauber should remember. That same evening the situation came to a head. Reiser tries to contact Brock again, but Brock is permanently surrounded by police officers. A firefight ensues in which one of the policemen deliberately shoots Brock in the back. Reiser eliminates the shooter before he can fire a fatal shot at Brock. Then Reiser brings Brock into his hiding place and cares for his wounds. The police now assume a hostage situation and force the search for Reiser. In the meantime Brock's daughter was informed by Tauber of the corruption allegations. She informs the head of operations Mesek that he has “traitors” among his people. He does not want to believe this, but soon finds out that the police officer Fritz Stadler begins to look for Reiser on his own. Reiser had called Stadler to lure him over. Both shoot each other, and Reiser kills Stadler. Brock has now come to. Since Mesek and his men have meanwhile arrived, Brock tries to persuade Reiser to give up. But as soon as Reiser puts down his gun, Mesek shoots him. Brock has to realize that Mesek is also not interested in uncovering the internal police corruption case. Brock wants to know why Mesek brought him in. Mesek replies that he would rather have the psychologist around to see what he is doing. He calls an ambulance and has Brock taken to the clinic.

Reviews

For the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , Heike Hupertz assessed: In this episodes of the traces of evil, the filmmakers give “the darkest paint to date, also in terms of film aesthetics. Illumination as trivialization is consistently refused. In some scenes [...] you only see unidentifiable people's shadows and can barely see the scenery. [...] The not easily consumable, but impressive camera work by Thomas Kurzl is not inferior to the minimalist, effective sound design by Matthias Weber. ”“ It is hard to imagine that 'traces of evil' after 'anger' can continue like before, but it is absolutely desirable . "

Rainer Tittelbach from Tittelbach.tv wrote appreciatively: “'Anger' denies viewing habits - not only because of its aesthetic of darkness, which makes everything in life and in film a question of perception and surreally blurs in the spaces; The story (psychology, crime) is also not derived according to the rules of crime fiction and is certainly not explained at all. If Ambrosch tries to bring information from the past into the plot so that the viewer can understand better, it seems more like a foreign body in a nightmarish film made up of hints, moods and strong images. ”“ That is consistent, has style, that demands a lot from the eyes and ears of the audience. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm gave the best rating (thumbs up) and wrote: “When viewed with light, the scenario of the seventh episode is not always entirely plausible, but there is hardly any light in this heavy-blooded psychological thriller! Vienna is more like a darkroom of the mind, in which perfidy and paranoia thrive. ”Conclusion:“ Quite abysmal. Richard Brock has format! "

The WAZ criticized: “The exposition is extremely long and mysterious. Interleaved and in parts shadowy to the end: the chronicle of crime. But whether and how the loyal crowd of those who tune in to prime time can even hear acoustically what is being whispered, groaned painfully and insidiously whispered in cellars and police stations in search of a terrible truth, that one is allowed to ask.
