Sqeezer , sometimes also Squeezer , was a German Eurodance and Pop formation that emerged in the 1990s. Between 1995 and 2006, Sqeezer sold more than 1 million records worldwide. All singles were represented more than ten million times on compilations .

Band history

1995: foundation

The project was founded in 1995 by Jim Reeves . On the debut single Scandy Randy produced by the Berman brothers , the singer was initially today's call-in competition - animator Yvonne Spath , who was replaced shortly afterwards by Loretta Stern (“Lori”). From then on, Spath worked again as a dancer a. a. at Masterboy and was a member of the girl group Funky Diamonds until 1999 .

1996–1997: Debut album Drop Your Pants

Lori Stern (left) and Jim Reeves (right) together formed the most successful and best-known line-up of Sqeezer in the 90s.

The first release under Syndicate Music was Blue Jeans . In the follow-up single Sweet Kisses , which was released together with the album Drop Your Pants , alongside Jim Reeves and Lori Stern, the dancer Tee Jay was the third band member. While the debut single was still produced according to Eurodance patterns, Sqeezer subsequently combined it with sounds and samples from the 1950s, which can also be heard on the debut album Drop Your Pants .

In October 1996, Sqeezer opened up for Worlds Aparts Everybody Tour '96 . A little later, Tee Jay sought a solo career and was replaced by Marc Theven in January 1997. With him appeared in February 1997, the fourth single Saturday Night . Theven died of suicide in June 1997.

After a long hiatus, Tamagotchi was released in October 1997 . This song was recorded for toy manufacturer Saban Worldwide and was not released on an album. Tamagotchi became the official promotional song of the toy of the same name.

From 1998: Second album Streetlife

After Tamagotchi followed as a foretaste of the second album Get It Right , a musical merger with Mola Adebisi and the boy band Bed & Breakfast , which was ranked 46 of the German hit parade to. The second release was the single Without You , a ballad that secured 10th place in Germany and Austria and 12th place in Switzerland. Another release Wake Up followed from the album , which reached number 59 in the German charts. From then on, the style of music changed from the techno rhythm to quieter pop pieces and elements of soul .

With the single Wishing You Were Here , which was released in 1999, Sqeezer entered a new style of music. The sound of the ballad is reminiscent of the song Frozen, produced by William Orbit and interpreted by Madonna . After the single missed the chart entry, Loretta Stern left the band to focus on her acting career and was replaced by the new singer Veronica. Both singers can be heard on the unreleased song Lonely Nights .

After a long break, the single Remember Summertime was released in September 2001 , in which, in addition to Jim Reeves, Loretta Stern and the 21-year-old singer and model Heidi Goldstein participated again. This was to be the last release with Loretta Stern, which the band finally left to concentrate on their acting career and their jazz group.

From 2002: re-establishment

In 2002 the group was reinvented. The new singer Eve and the Bochum dancer Andreas were signed by an appeal on television in early March in RTL II News . This resulted in the old Sqeezer-style single release 3 Times .

In 2004 the second attempt at comeback took place, started by Jim and Andy with the new singer Nicky, who joined the band through a ProSieben casting agency. The line-up produced the single Hot Ski Teeny , which did not make it into the charts. Hot Ski Teeny was recorded with new lyrics and released as the single Hot Bikini in May 2004. In the music video for Hot Bikini were Axel Schulz and Coolio to see.

In March 2006 the Sqeezer EP Drop Your Pants was released, which contains four remixes by Blue Jeans .

From 2007: Renaming to Squeezer

After a year of preparation, Sqeezer made another comeback in 2007. Sqeezer was now called Squeezer. To make the trio complete again, Reeves and the dancer Andy brought the new singer Daria on board. The band released the single High Heels in March 2008 , which was written by Delroy Rennalls (better known as Lazy Dee by Mr. President ). Other publications were the song Anybody , which appeared in 2007 on the sampler Fantasy Dance Hits Vol. 9 , and the ballad No Goodbye , which was made available on MySpace . To make the leap across the pond, the song Hot Bikini was shown in Canada in July 2007 for promotional purposes in all Foot Locker stores. In the summer of 2007 the band played at several music festivals and in September 2007 Sqeezer started a tour of Poland. In 2008 the new band member Mirage (singer, dancer and choreographer) joined the band. As a guest contribution, Squeezer appeared on DJ Beatboy's single Hey Helicopter in November 2008 . 2010 appeared high heels - New Mixes 2010 .

From 2013: return as Sqeezer

After a long break from the band, Sqeezer returned in 2013 under their original band name. On the occasion of the comeback, front man Jim Reeves looked for two new band members and was initially supported by singer Bella Mee and former The Voice of Germany candidate Mikey Cyrox. As of June 2014, Olivia Rehmer was part of the last lineup of Sqeezer alongside Reeves and Cyrox. They performed together from July 2014 to February 2015 at various 90s festivals.

On February 1, 2016, Jim Reeves was found dead in the Happy Go Lucky hostel in Berlin. According to the autopsy results , he was tortured before his death and died of internal bleeding. In September 2017, the trial for murder of low motives against two suspicious men began in Berlin . They said they felt disturbed by an alleged pickup. The band members published an official statement on the death of Jim Reeves on the Sqeezer Facebook page and decided not to continue the band without him.
