The urban retirement home in Penzberg , a town in the Upper Bavarian district of Weilheim-Schongau , was built between 1924 and 1926. The old people's home at Zugspitzstrasse 3 is a protected architectural monument .

The two-storey building with a mansard hipped roof was built according to plans by the city architect Josef Linder in the neoclassical style. The broad building with a gabled central projection was built as a home for retired workers from the former Penzberg coal mine . In the early years there was a small turret in the middle of the roof. This castle-like building is one of the most beautiful historical buildings in the city.

In 1924 the city council decided to build a municipal Pfründnerheim. The property at the end of Parkstrasse was made available free of charge by the Oberkohle and the former construction and settlement cooperative of the city of Penzberg. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on September 24, 1924 .

On January 26, 1926, the municipal Pfründnerheim was opened. The mine pensioners made a one-off payment ( benefice ) in order to spend their retirement years there. The city of Penzberg succeeded in creating a home that for a long time was considered unique and progressive. The nuns from the monastery of St. Joseph of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate were responsible for the care of the residents. From 1929 to 1954 there was a housekeeping school in the basement. On April 28, 1944, the Pfründnerheim was renamed the Penzberg Municipal Retirement Home.

In 1977 the municipal retirement home was entered in the list of monuments. In the same year, construction of an extension began. The new building was built at Gartenstrasse 2 and was connected to the listed building with a connecting structure. At the same time, the listed building was modernized and rebuilt. In 1978 the extension was completed. The care was taken over by the Arbeiterwohlfahrt Oberbayern eV. 2018 the Municipal Nursing Home from the town of Penzberg of which was Thomas Wimmer - Foundation in Munich sold. On October 1, 2018, the supervision was taken over by Novita and on October 1, 2019, supervision was taken over by the Arbeiterwohlfahrt München Stadt, which cooperates with the Thomas Wimmer Foundation.
