history

Natural Science High School Mackensenstrasse

The forerunner of the Vohwinkel grammar school was, among other things, a private boys' school that began teaching in 1892. Their aim was to prepare for the Obertertia (= grade 9) of the types of schools secondary school , secondary school to serve and high school, which is why, for example, Latin was been taught. the boys' school was taken over by the community as a public rectorate school in 1897 .

In 1907 the educational establishment was transformed into a secondary school. Attempts to convert the Realschule into a grammar school failed, among other things, in 1912. After the First World War , after an interruption in construction work, the building (today's old building) on Mackensenstrasse (now Goerdelerstrasse) could be moved into. Because of this location, the name Macke was used as an abbreviation for the school.

After approval in November 1924, it was converted into a Reform Realgymnasium in 1925 , which was given a new name in 1938 with the Scharnhorst School and the Municipal High School for Boys . During the Second World War , the school building served as a warehouse for war purposes and as accommodation for the Hitler Youth . After the end of the war, another school opened in the building, the municipal high school for boys .

In the 1960s, lightweight structures were built for the school for reasons of space. In 1971 the grammar school for boys and girls opened , which in the same year was renamed the mathematics, natural science and modern language grammar school for girls and boys . In 1974 it was merged with the social science high school Florian-Geyer-Straße .

In 1887 the Private Higher Girls School opened . The community took over the school in 1897 as a public secondary school for girls ; In 1912 it was expanded to become a lyceum . The expansion to a women's high school took place in 1937 after a previous attempt in 1929 had failed. In 1939 the women's high school was renamed the Schiller School .

The transformation into a social science high school took place in 1966. From 1970 boys were also allowed to attend school, and an educational branch was added. Both circumstances resulted in a renaming of the social science high school with an educational branch for girls and boys . The high school was called Flori for short by the students .

After 1974

Only after the handover of the new building at Nocken in 1977 was the administration moved from Florian-Geyer-Straße to the new building. The building on Florian-Geyer-Strasse now served as an upper level building. In 1987 the rest of the school also moved into the Nocken building. The newly founded Vohwinkel Comprehensive School (today Pina-Bausch Comprehensive School) moved into the building on Florian-Geyer-Straße.

building

The school complex is divided into two buildings; the main wing ( new building ) with the administration and the older outbuilding ( old building ). From October 2009 to October 2012, the new building was renovated with the effect of saving heating costs by 42,000 € per year.
