biography

Stéphane Bertrand took an early interest in music , literature and cinema . He began his professional music career with Scott Parker Allen and others in Cannes and Nice in 1987 .

To this day, many uses on the electric bass and acoustic bass as a live and studio musician and also the publication of his own works, such as the setting of his own compositions , the music for various plays (including Michael Gaudo's "Berger des Chimères"), but also Soundtracks to short films .

The meeting with Jean-Marc Jafet was decisive for Bertrand's further career when he was to represent him on a tour with his band. From this a fruitful collaboration developed in the following years with many other artists, on the concert stage, on tours and festivals , or in the studio: Amina Fakhet , Soriba Kouyaté , Yang, Jean-Marc Jafet, François Chassagnite , Frédéric Luzignant, Julien Vecchié , Scott Parker Allen, Frédéric l'Epée and many other artists appreciate working with Bertrand to this day.

In 2000, Bertrand joined the GLI ( Groupement des Libres Improvisateurs ), managed by Frédéric L'Epee and Serge Pesce , and recorded three live albums with this ensemble. In addition to concerts with his own quartet (François Chassagnite tr, Claude Tedesco p, Yoann Serra dr), he accompanies Soriba Kouyaté on the European tour. He contributes an acoustic bass solo “Etranger” to the compilation “Basses influences 3” (published by 13 Bis).

His playing is characterized by great musicality and unpredictable in interpretation and expression; the sound of his instruments could almost be described as "impressionistic". His profound improvisations arise from various sources, from classical and rock to jazz and world music .

His compositions have unusual titles and are often nostalgic and mysterious. He has been reported in countless publications in France. Music journalists like Noël Balen see in him a musician of inestimable talent who is just as much at home in rock as in jazz.
