Stéphane Robitaille (born April 22, 1970 in Québec , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who last played in the 2011/12 season for the EC Kassel Huskies in the Oberliga West . In previous years he was on the ice for the Kassel Huskies and the Hannover Scorpions in the German Ice Hockey League .

Career

Robitaille began his ice hockey career in 1988 in the US college league ECAC Hockey at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute . There the trained defender developed into a high performer. The first season was already successful. The left shooter was used in 22 games and was able to achieve eleven points scorer. Even then it was clear that he is a fair and not very physique player. He received only four penalty minutes in the 22 games, a relatively low number for a defender. He was able to improve steadily over the next three years and is one of the most dangerous defenders on the team.

During the season 1991/92 changed the then 21-year-old in the American Hockey League to the Capital District Islanders , the former farm team of the New York Islanders . This career stage only developed into a brief interlude. Robitaille changed clubs again after a few months. In the end, he completed 11 AHL games in which he scored six points scorer. This time he signed a contract with EC Graz from the Austrian Bundesliga . He and the team were Austrian runners-up in 1994 , but could not contribute very much as he was only used in two games. He then joined the Kapfenberger SV , with which Robitaille could advance to the play-off quarter-finals. He played a big part in this - in 33 games he got 35 scorer points. After Kapfenberger SV had to file for bankruptcy after ten games during the 1997/98 season , Robitaille was also forced to change clubs. This was followed by a short guest appearance in the Swiss National League B at EHC Biel , before he moved to the DEL to the Kassel Huskies in the 1998/99 season.

In Kassel Robitaille was at the height of his career and had his best years in sport. He immediately belonged to the regular squad and was able to celebrate great successes with the huskies. Besides, he was one of the top defenders on the team. In his second year in North Hesse he was able to achieve 30 scorer points in 56 games. In 2000 , 2001 and 2002 he reached the play-off semi-finals with the Kassel Huskies. His last season was similarly successful, but could not be crowned with the cup victory in the end. Nevertheless, it was enough for the vice cup win in 2004 .

The crowd favorite then left his long-term employer and played one year in the French Ligue Magnus for the Rouen Dragons and again in Germany for the Füchse Duisburg . For the 2006/07 season Robitaille signed a two-year contract with the Hannover Scorpions. There he played two average years, but could not convince. His contract was not extended after it expired.

Finally, those responsible at the Bietigheim Steelers became aware of the now 38-year-old Robitaille and initially signed him for a year. He stayed with the Steelers until 2011 before returning to the Kassel Huskies.

In 2012 Robitaille ended his professional career, continued playing at the amateur level for the EJ Kassel in the Hessen League and coached the young ice hockey players from Kassel.
