Stéphane de Loecker (born August 31, 1959 in Halle , Belgium ) is a Belgian diplomat.

Career

From 1979 to 1984 Loecker completed an engineering degree in agricultural sciences. From 1983 to 1984 he also earned a master's degree in rural economics and sociology and from 1984 to 1985 a master's in international trade.

Loecker has been a member of the diplomatic corps since 1985. From 1986 to 1987 he worked in the Ministry of Foreign Trade, from 1988 to 1991 Attaché to the Permanent Mission of Belgium to the OECD in Paris and from 1991 to 1993 first secretary at the Belgian Embassy to the United Kingdom . From 1993 to 1995 Loecker was transferred to the IAE in Paris before he became the first secretary of the Belgian embassy in Burundi from 1995 to 1997 .

From 1997 to 1999 Loecker was Belgian ambassador to Ethiopia , with a second accreditation for Eritrea and Djibouti , before he worked as a consultant at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brussels from 1999 to 2000 . From 2000 to 2002 Loecker was Belgium's Deputy Representative to the United Nations in New York and from 2002 to 2004 Belgian Consul General in New York. From 2004 to 2007 Loecker was again appointed ambassador, this time in Beirut for Lebanon . This was followed by Belgium's special envoy on climate change from 2007 to 2008 and from 2008 to 2009 that of director of the United Nations Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2010 to 2011 Loecker was ambassador for Georgia , Armenia and Azerbaijan based in Brussels. From 2011 to 2012 he was seconded to the European External Action Service and was ambassador of the European Union in Burundi. From 2014 to 2015 Loecker returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brussels as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary .

From 2016 to 2017 Loecker was the Belgian ambassador to Nigeria . Loecker has been the Belgian ambassador to Indonesia since 2018 , with a second accreditation for East Timor , where he handed over his accreditation on February 28, 2019.
