The Störkathener Heide , officially also "Nature Reserve Heidefläche bei Kellinghusen" is a nature reserve near the village of Störkathen in Schleswig-Holstein .

The “heathland near Kellinghusen” belongs to the Holsteinische Vorgeest natural area and is part of a larger inland dune area , which arose on old moraines on the edge of the Stör lowlands after the last Ice Age and stretched from Kellinghusen to Brokstedt. Thus the existing presence of heather , bell heather and dwarf shrub not pine forest is displaced, the area is with Heidschnucken maintained. A small part of the area is swampy . An educational trail leads around the site . The nature reserve is looked after by the Steinburg district as the lower nature conservation authority.

history

The area is, along with other small remaining areas in the area, one of the last remnants of the formerly large-scale heather on the Holstein Geest . In 1913, the leather manufacturer C. Westphal donated the necessary money to the city of Kellinghusen to purchase the area on the condition that the heather be preserved "in its current form". The site was placed under protection as early as 1938.
