Rhinplate and the banks of the Elbe south of Glückstadt is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein town of Glückstadt in the Steinburg district .

The nature reserve was designated at the end of 2000 (date of regulation: December 5, 2000). The nature reserve lies entirely within the FFH area "Schleswig-Holstein Elbe estuary and adjacent areas". In the south it borders on the landscape protection area "Kollmar march".

The nature reserve is located south and west of Glückstadt. It represents the five-kilometer Rhinplate , parts of Glückstädter addition Elbe with its valuable shallow water areas and in front of the country's protection dyke lying foothills - and shore areas just above the Spülfeldes south of Glückstädter port until just below the Biel Berger harbor at Siel Lange Halser bettors under protection. In the nature reserve, which the Tide of happened Unterelbe is exposed and is flooded with flood events, different habitat types are found: river and brackish tidal flats to which reeds zones connect and residues of Weichholzauwäldern and willow bushes prevail here before. A special feature is the Biel Berger grove in Vordeichgelände in the south of the nature reserve, which is the residue of an on the Lower Elbe now endangered White Willow - floodplain forest concerns. In the north of the Rhinplate and in front of the land protection dike there are also zones with poor grasslands . The areas in front of the land protection dike were created on flushing fields on which sand and silt from the Elbe were washed up in 1977 for the construction of the dike. Originally, this was carried out over a length of 3.5 kilometers and a width of 400 to 700 meters, on which a new protective dike and commercial areas for the city of Glückstadt were to be created. However, after species-rich communities worthy of protection had developed on the rinsing areas, only 65 hectares of the area were diked and the outer dyke areas were part of the "Kollmarer Marsch" landscape protection area designated in 1980. They are of particular importance today, as there are hardly any unused sandy areas on the Tidal Elbe. The sandy areas are increasingly populated by plants, so that maintenance measures are necessary here in order to preserve or regain areas that are not overgrown. The lean lawns are also maintained through decussing measures and occasional grazing with heather sheep .

In the nature reserve are u. a. rare species such as the Stingende Simse, which is only found here in Germany, as well as the Wiebelsschmiele endemic to the Tidal Elbe (also known as Swamp Schmiele) and hemlocks water fennel can be found. Furthermore, u. a. Sand straw flower and Zwergfilzkraut and Biting Stonecrop , silver grass and reindeer at home.

The Glückstadt side Elbe is of great importance as a retreat and breeding area for many fish species in the Lower Elbe. The feint uses an area in the south of the Glückstadt side Elbe as a spawning area .

The tidal flats in the nature reserve are feeding grounds for numerous species of birds , including Bläss- and gray goose , shelduck , teal and black tern . The nature reserve is also of great importance for Limikolen . The white- tailed eagle is native to the Rhinplate .

The sand areas are an important habitat and a. for different insects . So here is z. B. sporadically the endangered sandstone beetle native.

The nature reserve can be viewed to a limited extent from the dike. Information boards are also set up here. A section of the Elbe Cycle Path runs along the dike. Behind the dike are mostly fallow land . The city of Glückstadt is planning to use areas behind the old dike as expansion areas for the “Stadtstrasse” industrial park , which will be used in particular for the expansion of the Steinbeis paper mill located in the city.
