St-Martin (Vareilles)
The church Saint-Martin is a Romanesque church in the town of Vareilles in Saône-et-Loire in the historic region of Burgundy ( France was built), the late 10th and early 11th century.
history
The Church of Vareilles is St. Martin of Tours ordained . It was given to the canons in Aigueperse in 1176 by Stefan II, Bishop of Autun . This received the associated benefices and the right to appoint the pastor.
architecture
The church of Saint-Martin has one of the most beautiful Romanesque bell towers of the Brionnais . Its three storeys on a square floor plan are covered by a stone helmet. Half- columns divide all sides.
The single nave church is closed by a flat wooden ceiling. The choir is spanned by an octagonal dome that rests on trumpets and is illuminated from the side through two sloping windows. The apse has a domed vault and has three windows, the rounded soffit is also heavily sloped.
