The Roman Catholic parish church of Saint-Pierre in Neuf-Marché , a French parish in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region , was built from the 12th century. The Romanesque church on Rue du Moulin has been a protected monument since 2004 ( Monument historique ).

history

The church, consecrated to the Apostle Peter , was built on the site of an 11th century collegiate church . Around 1070/80 Hugo von Grandmesnil (around 1025-1093) expelled the canons and replaced them with monks from the Abbey of Saint-Évroult , who set up a priory in Neuf-Marché that existed until the Revolution . The church was also used as a parish church. The oldest parts of the church date from the early 12th century. In the 19th century it suffered from renovations and after the damage in World War II it was not properly rebuilt.

description

The crossing consists of four large, non-profiled arched arcades . The transept arms are short and very high. In the left arm of the transept there is a staircase that led to the monks' dormitory . The choir is spanned by a barrel vault, followed by an apse with a semi- dome . On both sides of the choir there are single-bay chapels with straight ends and groin vaults . The transition to the main nave is formed by pointed arches that are supported on profiled cover plates. The square crossing tower was reduced to a stump in the 19th century. Carved ribbons run over the windows of the south transept, which consist of foliage on the west side and a diamond frieze on the south side . Palmettes , rosettes and saw teeth can be seen on the east side . The south gable of the transept is pierced by two, the apse by three arched windows.
