St-Sépulcre (Beaumont-du-Ventoux)
The Catholic Chapel of St-Sépulcre in Beaumont-du-Ventoux , a commune in the French department of Vaucluse in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region , was built in the mid-12th century.
history
That of the Holy Sepulcher (fr. Sépulcre) consecrated chapel belonged to a priory of the abbey of Saint-Victor in Marseille . It was rebuilt in the 17th century and extensively renovated in 1987. The chapel near the road to the hamlet of Valettes has been a protected cultural monument ( Monument historique ) since 2000 .
architecture
The chapel is made of carefully worked ashlar stones with many stonemason's marks. The nave , the two aisles and the adjoining semicircular choir are covered by a barrel vault . The tympanum of the portal on the southern facade has a scene that is interpreted in different ways: some see the blessing Christ surrounded by two crosses, others see a person who swears an oath. Only very small windows with stilted arches give the interior of the building a little light. A bell gable sits on the gable roof .
