The village church of St. Andreas of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District in the Grammendorf district of Nehringen in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen is a baroque church from the Swedish era .

history

Around 1350 a St. Andrew's chapel was consecrated in Nehringen . This was expanded to a parish church in 1498. At the end of the 16th century the church was renovated; The Renaissance-style altar with marble reliefs dates from this period.

In the years 1721 to 1726 the church was extended and furnished in the Baroque style for the Governor General for Swedish Pomerania, Johan August Meijerfeldt the Elder . The west tower was built in 1744 instead of an older tower from 1598. Further repairs took place in 1790.

After the Second World War , the building began to deteriorate. During the GDR era, it had to be closed due to the risk of collapse. After the district council of churches decided in 1984 to give up the church, the parish council of churches protested and sought help elsewhere. Donations, such as from the partner community of St. John's in Chambersburg ( USA ) and the work of sexton Klaus Bergemann, made it possible to start restoration work in 1986. The rededication of the church was celebrated on June 21, 1992. The tower was renovated in 1997 and 1998.

architecture

The church is a plastered brick hall . The baroque shapes and the polygonal end of the choir date from the 18th century. The nave has plastered ashlar at the corners . The square west tower was built from field stones with a granite ashlar base. The tower has a hood with copper roofing and an open lantern . On the north west side of the nave there is a stair tower with a half volute gable .

Furnishing

The most important piece of church furnishings is the Renaissance altar from 1598 with marble reliefs of the Italian school, which depict , among other things, the erection of the brazen serpent , the fall of man and the resurrection . Altar, glazed confessional, pulpit and patronage box are decorated with carvings. In addition to two panel paintings depicting the Crucifixion and the Last Judgment , the church has a plastered wooden ceiling from 1720 with paintings of the Adoration and Ascension of Christ.
