history

View from the southeast

The church in Lüdershagen was first mentioned in a document in 1278; the construction of the church was finished in 1288. The church tower was probably built as an onion dome during the construction of the nave and was given its current shape in 1856. The shape of the upper floor of the tower was designed by local craftsmen after a fire.

Coin find 2012

During restoration work, almost 300 coins from Northern Germany and Northern Europe were found after the baroque floor was taken up . It is believed that the coins fell down during offerings and collections and slipped through the cracks in the floor.

Exterior

The church consists of a choir , a three-bay nave with buttresses and cloverleaf arch frieze and a 41 meter high church tower. The two-aisled church building stands on a foundation of neatly hewn granite blocks .

On the east gable of the nave there are pointed arched, white plastered window mockups. They were modeled on the tower in 1909.

Furnishing

Remnants of Gothic wall paintings were uncovered in 1959 and have been well restored. The baptismal font of limestone dates from the 14th century; it is the oldest piece of furniture.

The church received a new altar in 1564, which was replaced by a pulpit altar in 1817. The current altar dates from the end of the 19th century, as does the pulpit. The oldest parts of the seating date from the 16th century, some parts are dated to 1724. The horseshoe-shaped galleries date from 1819; they bear inscriptions from those who were once entitled to sit there.

organ

The Buchholz organ was manufactured in 1849. It comes from the workshop of Carl August Buchholz . In 1917 the tin pipes in the prospectus were given away for war purposes and melted down and later replaced by zinc pipes.

Before the restoration in 2008, the existence was seriously endangered. The metal pipes threatened to snap and the wooden pipes showed considerable woodworm damage . In the 1980s, woodworms were effectively combated, but the existing damage caused by feeding had consequences for the stability of the wooden pipes. The organ was restored by the Mecklenburg Organ Builders in 2008. The restoration was estimated to cost around 30,000  euros .
