St. Laurentius Chapel in Polau

The Evangelical Lutheran St. Laurentius Chapel is located in the Polau district of the Rosche community in the Uelzen district in Lower Saxony .

location

The chapel is located in the middle of the village of Polau. The associated cemetery borders the chapel to the south. The main road runs directly northwest of the chapel.

history

The predecessor of today's chapel was a half-timbered chapel from 1650 that did not have a tower. The half-timbered building presumably served as a barn in the past and stood in the middle of today's cemetery. The building was replaced by today's St. Laurentius Chapel in 1896 under the direction of master mason Schulz from Rosche and master carpenter Benecke from Süttdorf .

Today the chapel belongs to St. Johannis in Rosche to the parish of Rosche in the parish of Uelzen . Services are held here once a month.

architecture

The neo-Gothic hall building has a roof turret and is equipped with a retracted polygonal choir closure . The chapel was built of brick and has various side rooms. The west wall is equipped with a rose window with brick tracery. The entrance is on the north side. The roof turret is covered with slate , the nave with red roof tiles .

The interior is painted white. Much of the furnishings, including the west gallery , the pews and the pulpit , are kept green.

Furnishing

The chapel is furnished with three late Gothic altar figures. They were probably created in the 16th century by the wood carver Benedikt Dreyer from Lübeck .
