history

The history of the church goes back to the year 1000. This makes the church the oldest parish in the area around Cuijk . At that time the Petruskirche was a single-nave, Romanesque hall church with a tower and a closed choir. It was later replaced by a brick Gothic church known for its beautiful reticulated vaults. Around 1870 this church was enlarged in the neo-Gothic style. In 1944 this church building was destroyed by the violence of the war; the remains of it were accidentally demolished in 1946.

The present church was built as a cruciform church in neo-Gothic style based on a design by the architect Hendrik Willem Valk . The steeple of the brick church stands at the southwest end of the building on the street front, the choir is closed with a three-sided apse . In 1952 the church was solemnly consecrated by Bishop Wilhelmus Pieter Adrian Maria Mutsaerts of the diocese of 's-Hertogenbosch.

Furnishing

For the church furnishings , preserved elements from the previous churches were used, in the crypt one can also find remains of the former Romanesque and late Gothic churches, such as the marble grave for Count Oswald III. van den Bergh and his wife, created in 1741 by Johann Baptist Xavery .

Verschueren in 1959 .

Both Jakobs sculptures are by Heinrich Douvermann from the beginning of the 16th century. There is also a Pieta from the 16th century, a statue of the Virgin Mary with her mother Anna from the 16th century, a statue of Saint Cornelius from the 15th century and a statue of the Virgin Mary from the 15th century.
