St. Aegidius is the Roman Catholic parish church in the Hellenthal district of Wolfert in the Euskirchen district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The church is consecrated to St. Aegidius . In addition to Wolfert, the parish includes the places Aufverarbeitung I , Kradenhövel , Oberdalmerscheid , Unterdalmerscheid , Rodenbusch , Wittscheid and Zehnstelle .

The church building is located in the center of the village between Wolferter Weg, Agidiusweg and Eschenweg.

General

Wolfert originally belonged to the Reifferscheid parish and since 1803 to the Rescheid parish. The first chapel in Wolfert was built in 1745. In 1755 the pastor of Reifferscheid received the episcopal permission to celebrate Holy Mass in the chapel . In 1938 Wolfert was raised to the position of vicarie within the parish of Rescheid. Wolfert was only raised to an independent parish on December 3, 1995.

Building history

The current parish church was built in 1745 as a hall church. In 1933 there was an extension to include a transept and an extension to the west. The plans come from the hand of Schleiden district architect Hermann Burisch . At the beginning of March 1945 the church was damaged by the effects of the war. The repair work was finished in 1946. In 1985 the church was completely renovated.

Building description

St. Egidius is a five-axis and two-aisled building in a round arch style with a transept and a five-sided closed choir . A roof turret with an eight-sided tower dome rises above the transept.

Furnishing

Of the furnishings, the sandstone Marien altar from 1939 and the limestone font from 1938 are worth mentioning. The stained glass windows are works by Walther Hugo Brenner from 1948.
