The church building is located in the middle of Losheim on the corner of Prümer Strasse ( Bundesstrasse 265 ) and Hüllscheider Weg and is only a few meters from the German-Belgian border .

General

A first chapel was built in Losheim in 1486. At that time the place was a branch of the Manderfeld parish , to which Losheim belonged until 1922. After the First World War , Losheim was added to the Kingdom of Belgium in 1919 , to which the parish Manderfeld now also belonged. Due to the considerable protest of the Losheim population and petitions to Pope Benedict XV. , the Belgian King Albert I and the President of the USA Losheim fell back to the German Empire on October 1, 1921 . This resulted in the situation that the Manderfeld parish was divided into two states. So Losheim was finally separated from the Manderfeld parish in January 1922 and raised to an independent parish.

Building history

The first chapel in Losheim was probably a donation from Herr zu Kronenburg Georg von Virneburg in 1486. This chapel was very likely a simple hall church in the Gothic style . This church was restored between 1690 and 1727.

In 1912 the pastor of Manderfeld, Johannes Bormacher, founded a church building association to build a new church in Losheim. In the early 1920s, the old church was demolished and the current parish church was built between 1923 and 1924. The plans for the new building were provided by the Prussian government building officer Arthur Kickton . The solemn consecration took place four years later after completion, namely on June 6, 1928 by the Aachen auxiliary bishop Hermann Joseph Sträter .

During the Second World War , the church was very badly damaged and the interior was completely destroyed. The faithful reconstruction was carried out between 1948 and 1949. On December 5, 1949, the rebuilt parish church was consecrated by the Aachen bishop Johannes Joseph van der Velden .
