St. Agatha (Altenhundem)
The Catholic parish church of St. Agatha is a listed church building on Sandstrasse in Altenhundem , a district of Lennestadt in the Olpe district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
The neo-Gothic stepped hall with three bays , with a single bay choir at the five-eighth end , was built from 1900 to 1901 under the direction of Ludwig Becker and Wilhelm Sunder-Plaßmann . The transept is low, the tower is on the side. The quarry stone building with rich ashlar structure and fish bubble tracery is animated by additions. A set of stone stairs lead to the lower town center . The church was extensively renovated in 2010, it was repainted, the floor was repaired and the organ cleaned andintoned . In addition, an Agatha chapel was set up in the rear area, which is separated from the church by an artistically designed glass wall.
Furnishing
- The high altar by August Bücker is from the time the church was built. When the altar is closed, the figures of the apostles Peter can be seen above, with a crucifixion scene in between. Saints are depicted below. When the altar is opened, the reliefs show scenes from the Old and New Testaments .
- The side altars, St. Mary's altar and Joseph's altar, as well as the pulpit are works by Peter Schneider and also related to the construction period.
- The crucifix and the lamentation group are from the beginning of the 16th century
organ
The organ was built from 1978 to 1986 by the organ builder Siegfried Sauer (Höxter). Pipe material from the previous organ, which was built in 1902 by the organ builder Franz Eggert (Paderborn), is reused in the instrument. The slider chest instrument has 29 registers on two manuals and a pedal. The swell mechanism is housed in the Rückpositiv housing. The game actions are mechanical, the stop actions are electric.
