The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Andreas in Eching , a community in the Upper Bavarian district of Freising , dates back to a Romanesque church building from the 12th century. The interior is decorated with stucco decor in the early Rococo style. The church is dedicated to the apostle Andrew .

history

The nave of quarry stone was erected in the 12th century and increased in the 13th century and expanded. The choir was built in the 15th century and the bell tower was added to the west facade. In 1734 the interior was redesigned in the early Rococo style.

architecture

The church is a hall with a retracted choir . The outer walls of the choir are reinforced by stepped buttresses , the inner walls are structured by flat pilasters that stand on high plinths and are provided with profiled spars .

Ceiling paintings

The ceiling picture in the choir represents the glory of the church patron . He hovers on a cloud and includes his attribute , the St. Andrew's cross , on which, according to legend, he was martyred. The sermon is depicted in the nave and the vocation of the saint as apostle above the gallery .

Piece

The ceiling paintings are surrounded by stucco frames with shell work and tendril decorations. The ceiling of the nave and the choir is covered with a multicolored stucco decoration made of garlands and arabesques . On the choir arch , the St. Andrew's Cross is framed by a stucco cartouche with garlands of flowers, and angel sputtles and angel heads bedded in clouds float to the side .

Furnishing

Main altar
  • The altars date from the late 17th century. The painting on the main altar depicts the crucifixion of the apostle Andrew. On the side of the altar are the two brothers and early Christian martyrs John and Paul , both holding a sword and the martyr's palm.
  • The north side altar is framed by the figures of the apostles Peter and Paul . A small crescent Madonna stands in the niche of the altar .
  • The altar panel of the south side altar depicts the crucifixion of Christ with Mary, John and Mary Magdalene. The side figures, St. Sebastian and St. Stephen by Johann Christian Talhammer, are dated to 1691.
  • The pulpit , like the altars, was created in the third quarter of the 17th century. Mary and apostles are depicted on the pulpit.
  • Under the crucifix is a colored carved figure of a Mater Dolorosa , who is piercing a sword through the chest.
