history

inside view

In 1216 there was already a chapel dedicated to St. Andreas was consecrated. Since the patronage of St. Andrew has existed since the 8th century, this chapel probably replaced an earlier St. Andrew's Church. A bell with the inscription AVE MARIA MCCCCC (1500) has been preserved from the previous church of the present church. Today's church was built under Prince-Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn around 1610. In 1952 the church was extended by a transept by the architect Hans Habinger from Karlstadt . Bishop Julius Döpfner inaugurated the new building. In 2006 the outside of the church was renovated.

Description and equipment

The church was originally oriented to the east to the former choir in the basement of the church tower . The expansion of the church in 1952 changed the orientation of the church to the west. The tower room has served as a baptistery since then . The high altar and the side altars were moved to the western wall of the new transept. They were originally made in the 17th century, but are no longer in their original condition. The organ , which was procured in 1954 to replace an instrument from 1765, is placed on the eastern gallery . In the church tower hang three bells with the tones g '- h' - d ”.

Inscription above the portal

The undated inscription on the stone tablet refers to Julius Echter and reads:
