history

From 1842 to 1966 there was a church on the outskirts of the village in the direction of Dalum , which had a ridge turret with a bell on the gable roof . It offered space for around 180 believers.

It is not known when Geeste received the first chapel. A chapel is mentioned in a document in 1651. In 1727 it burned down and was rebuilt.

The current parish church in the town center towards Osterbrock was built between 1963 and 1966 according to plans by the architects Theo Burlage and Bernhard Niebuer. Between 2002 and 2003 the church was extensively renovated and refurbished.

Buildings and equipment

The brick church has the shape of a truncated circle segment with a high altar wall. The square, towering tower stands south of the church and is connected to the church interior via the sacristy .

The windows are decorated with biblical motifs. On the left of the altar, ambo and tabernacle there is a Mother of God with baby Jesus. The altarpiece by the Ohrbeck artist Rudolf Krüger consists of a large bronze grille. One recognizes u. a. Jesus as awakened, surrounded by the tree of life , the heavenly Jerusalem , the sun and the moon. On the right of the altar area there are two windows with two Bible motifs each: the birth of Jesus and the Lord's Supper , the resurrection of Jesus and the ascension of Christ . There are four tall windows in the church on the left. They each also represent two motifs from the Bible: the fall of man and the exodus from Egypt , Moses receives the ten commandments and the Sermon on the Mount , Jesus blesses the children and the wedding in Cana, and at the fourth window Jesus walks on the water and the miraculous multiplication of bread . On the south side of the church seven smaller colorful concrete glass windows are embedded in the church wall: two evangelist windows lion and eagle as symbols for Mark and John , followed by the figure of the synagogue , in the middle Christ, on the right the figure of Ecclesia , then two evangelist windows Taurus and angels as signs for Luke and Matthew . Like the altarpiece, the concrete glass windows are by Rudolf Krüger. The concept and painting of the other windows was done by the painter, graphic artist and glass painter Bodo Schramm from Cologne. The work was carried out by KG Hein Derix from Kevelaer in the years 2002 to 2003. The confessional room is located on the back left next to the baptism room on the inner wall . A life-size wooden crucifix hangs on the western north wall . To the right of it hangs a picture of Mary. The Way of the Cross is attached to the south wall in the rear area. On the gallery is the organ .

The rows of banks form a large corridor in the middle. They are arranged so that the view is directed towards the sanctuary.
