St. Antonius (Kreuzberg)
The St. Antonius chapel in Kreuzberg , a district of the Altenahr community in the Ahrweiler district ( Rhineland-Palatinate ), was built in 1783 and dedicated to St. Consecrated to Anthony . The chapel is located at the western entrance of the castle ring of Kreuzberg Castle . The chapel is a protected cultural monument .
history
Count Caspar Anton von der Heyden , known as Belderbusch, had the chapel built in 1783 at the western entrance of the Burgbering. A chapel belonging to the castle has been documented since 1485. This Gothic building stood at the foot of the Burgberg on the Ahr and was destroyed in a flood.
architecture
The building, built as a castle chapel in the late Baroque style, has a polygonal choir and is divided into three axes by windows on its longitudinal front . On the south side is the round arched portal , which is framed by a risalit reaching into the gable . A statue of the church patron is exhibited in a gable niche. The interior is spanned by a barrel vault made of wood. The coat of arms of the builder family von der Heyden, called Belderbusch, with the year 1783 can be found on the gallery.
Boeselager family
The von Boeselager family , who have owned the castle and chapel since 1820, are present several times in the chapel with their coat of arms. The family coat of arms is affixed to the organ and in the side chapel there is a lead glass window with the Boeselager coat of arms.
