history

A church in Schophoven probably already existed in 1533. This old church was replaced in 1859 by a three-aisled hall church with a round apse in the neo-Romanesque style and classicist transitions. The Bartholomäus Chapel in Paderborn served as a model . The church was planned by the Düren district architect Kriescher. In 1855, the then branch parish of the parish of St. Mary's Visitation Pier became an independent parish.

On January 1, 2013, the former Schophoven parish was merged with 13 other former parishes to form the Heilig Geist Jülich parish.

Furnishing

In the apse there is a sgraffito by Heribert Reul (1911–2008) from 1956, which depicts Christ as the ruler of the world . Paul Franz Bonnekamp probably designed the windows in the 1950s.
