St. Bartholomäus is the Roman Catholic rectorate church of Hammer , municipality of Simmerath , in the city ​​region of Aachen in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

Today's church in Hammer is still the first church building in the village and was built between 1862 and 1863 from the residents' own funds. The government in Aachen previously issued the building permit. In May 1920, the Hammer branch received an independent asset management. At that time the place belonged to the Eicherscheid parish . In 1932 the place received its own pastor and since 1960 Hammer has had the status of a parish vicarie and was thus completely separated from the mother parish Eicherscheid.

Building description

St. Bartholomäus is a hall church made of quarry stone in four axes and was built in simple neo-Gothic forms . The choir is located in the east of the nave and is currently closed. A square roof turret with an eight-sided spire rises above the west gable . The windows are ogival and edged with bluestone . In addition, the church has a corner block made of bluestone. The interior is spanned by a barrel vault, which is divided by belt arches .

Furnishing

The tabernacle , the ambo , the 14 stations of the cross and the stained glass windows are works by the artist Erich Charlier from the 1950s and 1960s.
