history
In Rollesbroich there was no church of its own for a long time. The residents always had to go to neighboring Simmerath to attend church services. Due to the strong growth of the village, however, the residents felt obliged to build their own church in the middle of the 19th century. The own church became a reality between 1859 and 1860 through donations from the population as well as through hand and tension services. Rollesbroich now became a branch of the Simmerath parish and received its own pastor in 1873. Between 1889 and 1904 this activity was carried out by the Simmerath pastor , after which Rollesbroich had its own rector again . The final separation from Simmerath took place on January 1, 1919 when it was raised to an independent parish .
Building history
The first church in Rollesbroich, built from 1859 to 1860, was built by the Steckenborn contractor Matthias Strauch. The plans were drawn up by Karl de Berghes , the local master builder from Monschau . He designed a hall church in neo-Gothic forms . The consecration took place on December 13, 1865 and in 1919 the building was elevated to a parish church.
In the second half of 1944 the bell tower was blown up by German soldiers and the rest of the parish church was completely destroyed.
As early as 1946, Hans Schmieders from Kalterherberg presented a first draft for a new building, but it was never realized. The design by the two architects Friedrich Wilhelm Bertram and Elmar Lang was finally realized between 1952 and 1954. In July 1954 the first service could be held in the new church.
