St. Dionys is a district of the municipality of Barum in the district of Lüneburg , Lower Saxony ( Germany ).

geography

St. Dionys is a village on the edge of the Lüneburg Elbmarsch . It is not far from the city of Lüneburg (about 12 km). After Hamburg is about 40 km away.

While the northern part of the town, through which the Neetze Canal flows, has more of the character of a marsh, the southern part is characterized by pine forests. The 18-hole golf course, which is largely located in the Brietlingen district, is distinctive .

history

St. Dionysius Church

The center of the village is St. Dionysius Church, which was founded in 795 by Charles , King of the Franks, five years before his coronation as emperor.

The village of St. Dionys was first mentioned in 1333.

Since March 1st, 1974 the place belongs to the municipality of Barum and thus to the joint municipality of Bardowick .

Place name

The place name is derived from the namesake of the church of the place, Saint Dionysius .

education

Primary school and kindergarten are located in Horburg . There are secondary schools in Bardowick and Lüneburg , but also in Scharnebeck .
