St. Francis (Koblenz)
The parish church of St. Franziskus is a Catholic church in Koblenz . The parish church built in the Goldgrube district was inaugurated in 1969. It bears the patronage of St. Francis of Assisi .
history
Originally the gold mine belonged to the parish Herz-Jesu . As the population grew, the parish was divided. On 1 October 1963, was in the gold mine parish St. Francis established. This rose on June 1, 1964 to the parish vicarie and on June 14, 1968 to the parish . The Bishop of Trier Bernhard Stein appointed Heribert Kraus (1933–2002), formerly chaplain in Herz-Jesu, as the first pastor of the new congregation on February 2, 1964 .
First, the service took place from October 4, 1964 in an emergency church on Overbergplatz in the gold mine. In addition, the construction of the parish church of St. Franziskus began. The foundation stone was laid on June 3, 1968, the solemn inauguration was carried out on October 4, 1969 by Trier Auxiliary Bishop Karl Heinz Jacoby . Next to the church, a single-family house was converted into a rectory. The community center is also used by the Protestant community in the gold mine, the Croatian mission and the Syrian-Aramaic community for the Koblenz area.
Construction and equipment
The parish church of St. Franziskus is an octagonal building with a sacrament chapel , baptistery and a sacristy . The church is equipped with an organ gallery and a crypt . The parish also has a parish hall, a meeting place and a kindergarten . Most of the artistic equipment comes from the Linz sculptor Günther Oellers .
Parish community
St. Franziskus is part of the " Parish Community Koblenz (Moselweiß)", which also includes St. Beatus and St. Hedwig auf der Karthauser , St. Laurentius in Moselweiß , St. Elisabeth in Rauental and St. Martinus in Lay .
