The parish church of St. Beatus is a Catholic church in Koblenz . The parish church was completed in 1953 in the young district of Karthaus . It bears the patronage of St. Beatus of Trier .

history

The Koblenz upper borough of Charterhouse was first after razing the Prussian Feste Kaiser Alexander settled in the 1930s. In the area of the former fortress, a first settlement area was created, which was looked after by the parish Herz-Jesu . The local pastor Johannes Metzdorf (1883–1953) tried to build a new church in the rapidly growing new district. However, the National Socialists prevented Metzdorf's plan. Only after the end of the Second World War did he succeed in 1946 in acquiring a building site with a horse stable on it. The new parish was named St. Beatus, which can be explained in the tradition of the place. Up until the secularization of 1802, there was a Carthusian monastery on the Beatusberg (today Carthusian monastery ) in the area of the Fort Grand Duke Constantine . The Carthusian Order worshiped St. Beatus here.

An emergency church was set up in the former horse stable and the first service was celebrated on August 29, 1948. Adolf Vogt was appointed the first pastor. Old relics of St. Beatus from the Carthusian monastery, which were kept in the parish church of St. Laurentius after the monastery was closed , have now been transferred to the new church. On May 15, 1950, the parish of St. Beatus was established by decree of the Archbishop of Trier, Franz Rudolf Bornewasser , which on August 5, 1950 rose to parish vicarie. In 1951, the Pionierhöhe settlement and that of the Karthäuserhof were separated from the parish of St. Josef and added to St. Beatus.

With this enlargement of the community, the expansion of the emergency church was tackled. The existing old horse stable was rebuilt and received a gallery . At the north end, the church was expanded by adding a small church tower . Three bells were hung here, including an existing bell “St. Beatus ”. The choir was installed in the substructure of the tower , and the new church building received a sacristy and a baptistery and confessional chapel. The rebuilt and expanded church building was inaugurated on October 3, 1953 with a service. On March 1, 1961, St. Beatus was raised to an independent parish by Trier Bishop Matthias Wehr . The consecration of the church took place on 10 November 1968th

At the end of October 2014, an eight-sided font made of Lahn marble was installed in the church , which was probably created by the Koblenz architect Johann Claudius von Lassaulx . It originally comes from the Koblenz Carmelite Church and was given to the new parish of St. Beatus in 1950. The font, previously only used as a flower pot, has now been restored for around 4200 euros.
